Founded in 2018 by Anjali Borkhataria (Ekantik founder, creative director and designer) with an aim to make practical, honest clothing based on simplicity, art and great design.

Ekantik started in 2018. No big investors, no hype machine. Just me, a sewing machine, and a dream I couldn’t ignore. I wanted to create something that felt honest. Clothing that tells a story. Clothing that says “this is Africa” without watering it down.
I was raised in Dar es Salaam, surrounded by craft, colour, and resilience. Everything about this continent inspires me — the people, the rhythm, the boldness. Ekantik is my way of giving that a voice. Not in a loud, flashy way. In a real, wearable way. Fabric as language. Design as memory. Style with soul.
Ekantik means “The one.” That’s the energy behind the brand. For the ones who carve their own path. Who don’t wait for permission. Who carry their culture with pride and wear their stories loud.
But this isn’t just about clothes. I want Ekantik to be a space for the next generation of creatives. To mentor, to share, to build. Because talent is everywhere on this continent. It just needs room to grow. If my journey can open even one door for someone else, then I’m doing my job.
This is Ekantik.
Real stories. Real roots.
Made in Africa, for everywhere.
Ekantik is a modern-day gender-neutral brand telling the untold stories Africa to help bridge the gap between western and African cultures. The word EKANTIK is a sanskrit term for ‘one who overcomes worldly desires’, and this sits at the heart of the brand’s mission – to make honest, practical clothing rooted in simplicity, fit and a passion for detail. Seven letters, split into three, a clear and strong message, unstoppable wind of pure energy.
Driven by a desire to create looks that are wearable inspired by all the hardworking people, a lifetime of travel, exploration and street. Ekantik delivers innovative garments with a core value of the brand to be made from the best available and particular opinion regarding fabric, fit and fabrication.
A utilitarian approach fused with tailoring and a touch of Africa creates a design recipe that is clean, sophisticated and unique.
Our goal has always been to inspire a brighter, bolder tomorrow through creativity and positivity. But changing the world doesn’t happen overnight (trust us). We all #startsomewhere. We may not solve all the world’s problems by selling clothes but we hope to provide an outlet to the people who care. We challenge you to consume different and welcome you to our army. We can’t wait to help you build the wardrobe of your dreams.
With love,
Anjali Borkhataria
